判教者犹利安在位期间巴巴鲁斯是一名士兵。当皇帝的指挥官巴楚斯带领罗马军队同法兰克人作战时，暗地里是基督徒的巴巴鲁斯随同军队作战。在战场上，法兰克军队一方出现了巨人歌利亚式的英雄人物，他向罗马军队进行挑战，要求对方派遣大将前来战场。指挥官巴楚斯建议巴巴鲁斯前去战场。巴巴鲁斯在心中暗暗祷告上帝，来到了战场，击败了那个巨人。结果，法兰克人都不敢应战，仓惶逃走了。由此，指挥官举行了盛大的庆功仪式，并命令向诸神献祭。在向诸神献祭期间，指挥官发现了巴巴鲁斯站在一旁，当指挥官向他询问时，巴巴鲁斯说出了自己是基督徒的身份。指挥官将这个消息报告给皇帝，由此，巴巴鲁斯遭受了残酷的折磨。但是巴巴鲁斯勇敢地忍受了一切。在巴巴鲁斯受刑期间出现了许多奇迹，看到这之后，许多士兵都接受了基督信仰，其中也包括指挥官巴楚斯，以及卡里马楚斯和迪奥尼西等人。他们三人都因基督之名而遭到了斩首，巴巴鲁斯于公元362年被斩首。他们的灵魂由此得以进入基督永恒的天国。
