Der hl. Proklos war Schüler des hl. Johannes Chrisostomos, und wurde zuerst Bischof von Kizykos. Im Jahre 434 wurde er zum Patriarchen von Konstantinopel gewählt. Zu seinem Verdienste gehört es, das die Reliquien des einst verbannten hl. Johannes nach Konstantinopel gebracht wurden, was die Wiederherstellung des guten Rufes des hl. Johannes bedeutete. Zu seiner Zeit fand in Konstantinopel ein großes Erdbeben statt, bei welchem ein Knabe in den Himmel erhoben wurde und dort den Gesang hörte "Heiliger Gott, heiliger Starker, heiliger Unsterblicher, erbarme dich unser!" diesen Gesang singt man bis heute während des Hauptgottesdienstes (hl. Liturgie). Das gleiche Gebet gehört zu den Grundgebeten des orthodoxen Christen. Der heilige Proklos starb im Jahre 474.
