Jakobus wurde als Sohn vornehmer und christlicher Eltern geboren. Während einer Christenverfolgung unter König Jezdegerd I. verleugnete er seinen Glauben. Als er sich nach des Königs Tod durch inständige Bitten seiner Mutter und seiner Frau wieder bekehrte, ließ ihn der Nachfolger auf dem persischen Thron, Bahrêm V., grausam zu Tode martern, indem ihm alle Glieder einzeln abgeschnitten wurden.
