Der hl. Eupsychios wurde in Cäsaria Kappadokien in einer vornehmen Familie geboren und wurde Christ. Am Tage seiner Hochzeit, als die Heiden das Opfer ihren Göttern bringen wollten, sammelte der Heilige das Volk um sich und zerstörte den heidnischen Tempel, von der Göttin Fortuna. Dafür wurde die ganze Stadt vom Kaiser Julianos, den Apostaten (361-363), der das Heidentum wiedererleben wollte, hart bestraft. Sogar der Name "Cäsaria" ("die Kaiserliche") wurde der Stadt aberkannt. Der hl. Eupsychios selbst wurde den schweren Quallen unterworfen und darauf enthauptet. Das geschah im Jahre 362.
