Según las profecías las hermanas Zenaída y Filoníla eran parientes del apóstol Pablo y eran sus alumnas. Se sabe poco de ellas. Nacidas en Tarso en la zona de Kiliky de Asia Menor (actual Turquía). Habiendo aprendido el arte de curar, habitaron cerca de la ciudad de Demitriada, al norte de Tarso. Su vida pasaba en ayuno y abstinencia. Fueron conocidas por los habitantes de ese país por la sanación de innumerables males. Buscando sanación cada vez más y más gente comenzó a visitarlas. Pero sanando males físicos, las santas hermanas trataban de curar penas espirituales de los asistentes y los instruían en la fe cristiana., con ello colaboraban con lo hecho por el apóstol Pablo.
