Néstor llegó al Monasterio de las Cuevas de Kiev a los diez y siete años, mientras san Teodosio aún era abad. Escribió la primera historia del pueblo ruso, a la cual integró la historia del ascetismo ruso. Se distinguía por su humildad y mansedumbre poco comunes. En sus gloriosas obras literarias, frecuentemente se refiere a sí mismo como indigno, vulgar, ignorante, y lleno de todo pecado. Pero Dios, que conoce el corazón humano, glorificó a este maravilloso hombre que tanto le agradó. Néstor entró a su descanso el 27 de octubre[/9 de noviembre] de 1114, y sus reliquias obraron muchos milagros.
