Ignacio era de Zagora en Bulgaria, la famosa Zagora que ha dado a la Iglesia a tantos santos ascetas y mártires, y vivió en ascetismo en la Ermita de san Juan el Precursor en [el Monte] Atos. Se entregó voluntariamente en manos de los turcos para ser torturado por causa de Cristo, siendo colgado en Constantinopla el 8 de octubre de 1814. Sus reliquias obran milagros, y su cabeza es atesorada en el Monasterio de san Pantaleón [en el Monte Atos].
