წმიდა მოწამე ლონგინოზ ასისთავი იუდეაში მსახურობდა და პროკურატორ პონტოელი პილატეს ხელქვეითი იყო. მაცხოვრის ჯვარცმის დროს რაზმი, რომელსაც რომაელი მეომარი ლონგინოზი მეთაურობდა, გოლგოთის ირგვლივ, თვით ჯვრის კვარცხლბეკთან იდგა საგუშაგოზე. მან თავის მეომრებთან ერთად იხილა უფლის მიწიერი ცხოვრების უკანასკნელი წამები და მიცვალების შემდეგ აღსრულებული სასწაულები. ამ მოვლენებმა შეძრა მეომრის სული. მან ირწმუნა ქრისტე და სახალხოდ აღიარა, რომ „ჭეშმარიტად ძე ღმრთისაჲ იყო ესე“ (მთ. 27,54) (საეკლესიო გადმოცემის მიხედვით, ლონგინოზი ის მხედარი იყო, რომელმაც გვერდში ლახვარი უგმირა მაცხოვარს და ჭრილობიდან გარდამოსული სისხლითა და წყლით სნეული თვალის კურნება მიემადლა).
