Καταγόταν από τη Θεσσαλονίκη και έζησε στα χρόνια του Μανουήλ του Παλαιολόγου. Ήταν Εβραίος και έγινε χριστιανός με πολλή αρετή, σύνεση και ευφράδεια λόγου. Νέος στην ηλικία πήγε στο Άγιο Όρος, όπου εκάρη μοναχός στη Μονή Βατοπεδίου. Αργότερα πήγε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και έγινε ηγούμενος της Μονής Παντοκράτορα και πνευματικός του αυτοκράτορα, που του έδωσε το αξίωμα του μεγάλου Πρωτοσύγκελλου. Απεβίωσε στη Χάλκη από μία θανατηφόρα αρρώστια στις 7 Ιανουαρίου 1431 μ.Χ. Ακολουθία του βρίσκεται σε κάποιο Κώδικα του Καΐρου, πού δημοσίευσε ο Κεραμεύς.
