Ο Άγιος Δημήτριος καταγόταν από το χωριό Δαβούδιο, που ήταν κοντά στην πόλη Αμαπασός. Συνελήφθη στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Μαξιμιανού και του άρχοντα Πουπλίου το 298 μ.Χ. Αφού υπέστη πολλά βασανιστήρια για τον Χριστό, στο τέλος τον αποκεφάλισαν.
