Οι Άγιοι Ιωάννης, Ηρακλείμων, Ανδρέας και Θεόφιλος κατάγονταν από την πόλη Οξύρρυγχο της Κάτω Αιγύπτου, στη δυτική όχθη του ποταμού Νείλου και ήταν γιοι γονέων χριστιανών. Διάβαζαν τις Άγιες Γραφές και θέλησαν την ερημική ζωή.
