По потекло се Срби и роднини на високи византиски аристократи. Ефтимиј најпрво му беше другар на Св. Атанасиј и економ на неговата Лавра, а потоа основач на манастирот Дохијар. Се упокои мирно во 990 година. Неговиот внук Неофит го наследи својот чичико како игумен на Дохијар, го умножи братството и изгради голема црква. Се упокои во почетокот на 9 век.
