în cumplitele vremuri ale stapînirii turcesti asupra Serbiei, acest mare ierarh a calatorit în Rusia, unde a fost unul din Parintii de la Sinodul de la Moscova, din anul 1655. La întoarcerea acasa, el a fost acuzat de înalta tradare. Un evreu plin de rautate 1-a mai acuzat si pentru aceea ca adusese mai multi evrei la credinta crestina, Ortodoxa, în acuzatia lor, evreii au scris ca Sfîntul avea în plan sa îi converteasca la crestinism si pe turci. Evreii au facut aceasta tocmai spre a stîrni ura bestiala a autoritatilor turcesti asupra Sfîntului. Adus înaintea tribunalului, Sfîntul a fost condamnat si osîndit sa treaca la islam. Dar cum Sfîntul Gavriil nu a putut fi coborît pîna la aceasta, dupa o perioada de întemnitare a fost condamnat la moarte si spînzurat la Brusa, în anul 1659. Astfel el s-a încununat de catre Domnul Hristos cu o îndoita cununa: a arhieriei si a sîngeroasei mucenicii.
