Ови свети мученици, Евентије и Максим војници, беху оруженосци код цара Јулијана Одступника. Јулијан их веома љубљаше због њихове храбрости, лепоте и горостасности. Када се Јулијан бављаше у Антиохији Сиријској, и беше наредио да се сви бунари и све намирнице загаде идоложртвеним приносима, да би се хришћани, употребљујући их, оскврнавили, Евентије и Максим гледајући то уздисаху и плакаху. После тога седећи на пиру они од срца заплакаше и рекоше к Богу: Предао си нас цару неправедном и горем од свих људи. - To неко од нечестивих чу и обавести Јулијана. Разљутивши се Јулијан их одмах дозва к себи, и дуго их мучећи љутим мукама, он их најзад посече мачем.
