Ele au fost surori după trup, şi s-au născut la Tarsus. Ele sînt numite rudenii după trup ale Sfîntului Apostol Pavel. Ele s-au închinat cu întreaga feciorie Domnului Hristos, lepădîndu-se desăvîrşit de toată grija cea lumească, şi retrăgîndu-se într-o peşteră, unde s-au îndeletnicit cu aspre nevoinţe călugăreşti. Fiind mare postitoare şi rugătoare, sfînta Filonilla s-a învrednicit de la Dumnezeu de darul facerii de minuni. Nişte necredincioşi le-au atacat într-o noapte şi leau ucis, omorîndu-le cu pietre.
