Acest sfînt a intrat ca monah în Mînăstirea Peşterilor din Kiev pe cînd a fost în vîrstă de şaptesprezece ani. Pe atunci stareţ al mînăstirii era încă slăvitul Sfînt Theodosie. Acest Peacuvios Nestor este cel care a însemnat prima istorie a poporului rus, în care a descris cu grijă şi faptele nevoinţelor duhovniceşti ale sfinţilor. El a fost un bărbat minunat de smerit şi de blînd. în cronica lui el adesea se descrie pe sine ca fiind o persoană grosolană şi comună, nevrednică, ignorantă şi plină de toată răutatea. Dar Dumnezeu Cel Care cunoaşte inimile oamenilor 1-a preaslăvit pe acest minunat sfînt al Său. Sfîntul Preacuvios Nestor Cronicarul s-a săvîrşit cu pace în douăzeci şi şapte de zile ale lunii octombrie din anul 1114, iar sfintele lui moaşte s-au arătat făcătoare de multe minuni.
