Sfîntul loil a prorocit nenorocirile care se vor abate asupra lui Israil, inclusiv robia babiloniană, din pricina păcatelor pe care poporul le comisese înaintea feţei lui Dumnezeu. El a chemat poporul la post iar pe preoţi la rugăciune cu lacrimi, aşa încît Dumnezeu să Se milostivească către ei: Postiţi post sfînt...şi strigaţi către Domnul (loil 1: 14); Intre tindă şi altar să plîngă preoţii, slujitorii Domnului (loil 2: 17). loil a mai prorocit şi Pogorîrea Duhului Sfînt asupra Sfinţilor Apostoli şi revărsarea harului Duhului lui Dumnezeu asupra tuturor creştinilor: Dar după aceea vărsa-voi Duhul Meu peste tot trupul (loil 3: 1). Sfîntul Proroc loil a prorocit şi a descris Ziua înfricoşatei Judecăţi a Domnului, precum şi slava Sfintei Bisericii Lui.
