Acest Sfînt Ignatie era de neam bulgar, din ţinutul Eski-Zagora. Acesta este vestitul ţinut al Zagorei care a dat lumii şi Bisericii lui Hristos mulţi mari nevoitori şi sfinţi mucenici. Sfîntul Ignatie s-a nevoit la Schitul Sfîntului loan Botezătorul din Sfîntul Munte Athos. El s-a dat de bunăvoie la chinuri din partea turcilor pentru Numele lui Hristos, şi a fost spînzurat la Constantinopol în a opta zi a lunii octombrie, din anul 1814. Sfintele lui moaşte sînt de minuni făcătoare, iar simţul lui cap s-a îngropat cu cinste la Mînăstirea Sfîntului Pantelimon din Sfîntul Munte Athos.
