Acest sfînt Gherasim era din cetatea Trikala din Peloponez, trăgînduse din vestita familie Notară. El s-a născut la anul 1509. El a vieţuit întru aspre nevoinţe la Muntele Athos, iar apoi în Palestina, unde a împlinit post desăvîrşit de patruzeci de zile. După aceea, el s-a sălăşluit în Insula Chefalonia, unde a întemeiat o sfîntă mînăstire. El a adus ploaie cu rugăciunea, a vindecat bolnavi, şi a descoperit cele ce aveau să fie în viitor. El s-a odihnit cu pace în a cincisprezecea zi a lunii august, din anul 1579. Sfîntul Gherasim a fost făcător de minuni şi în timpul vieţii, şi după fericita lui adormire.
