Sfîntul Eftimie s-a născut la Ancyra în anul 824, din binecredincioşii părinţi Epifanie şi Anna. El a slujt în armată, s-a căsătorit, şi a născut-o pe fiica Anastasia. El după acestea s-a retras la Muntele Olimp, iar apoi la Sfîntul Munte Athos, ducînd vreme îndelungată viaţa cea aspră şi sfîntă a tuturor nevoinţelor. El a vieţuit şi ca stîlpnic în apropiere de Tesalonic. El s-a săvîrşit către Domnul cu pace, într-o insulă din apropierea Sfîntului Munte, către sfîrşitul veacului al nouălea. Sfintele lui moaşte făcătoare de minuni odihnesc la Tesalonic.
