Osea a fost fiul lui Beeri, din tribul lui Isahar. El a trăit şi a prorocit cu mai mult de opt sute de ani înainte de Naşterea lui Hristos. Cuvintele lui de Dumnezeu insuflate se află scrise în cartea prorociilor lui, care cuprinde paisprezece capitole. El a certat cu asprime pe Israel şi pe Iuda pentru idolatria lor, el a vestit că se va abate crunt asupra lor mînia lui Dumnezeu pentru păcatele lor, a vestit pieirea Samariei şi a lui Israil pentru lepădarea lor de Domnul, şi a vestit milostivirea lui Dumnezeu asupra tribului lui Iuda. El a vestit sfirşitul şi desfiinţarea jertfelor Vechiului Testament. El a vestit venirea Domnului, şi bogăţia darurilor pe care El le va aduce cu El pe pămînt. Sfîntul Proroc Osea a trăit pînă la adînci bătrîneţe şi s-a săvîrşit cu pace.
