Sfantul Vucol s-a nascut in partile Smirnei. A trait in vremea Sfintilor Apostoli. Nu s-a multumit sa stie ca exista persoane care vestesc invatatura lui Hristos, ci calauzit de Duhul Sfant, a convertit la crestinism multi pagani. A fost hirotonit episcop de Sfantul Evanghelist Ioan. Inainte de a trece la cele vesnice, a lasat urmas pe Sfantul Policarp. Potrivit Traditiei, pe mormantul sau a crescut un copac, cu ale carui fructe erau vindecati bolnavii.
